Hailing from what is known as the "Wild Hundreds", Lil Mouse is a thirteen year old boy who raps about sex, drugs, and violence. All issues that plague Chicago's South and West side, particularly the neighborhood that Lil Mouse comes from. His music raises quite a few questions. First of all, how is someone so young talking about these things? Where are the parents? Absent, supportive? Similar to Keef, is his art a product of his environment or is the artist to blame for such a perpetuation of bad themes?
He has now gone on to have Lil Wayne featured on his hit single "Get Smoked". I don't want to give to much away about Lil Mouse because the video is very telling, but I think there is discussion to be had about him. Chicago is receding out of the spotlight and it clearly takes the shock of a 13 year old to bring it's limelight spot back. Can it really be take any further than this, though?
Good for this kid. It's not like the hip-hop kids are growing up with is any worse than his lyrics. At least he has some artistic drive and hopefully the attention he is getting now will help him further his career. Maybe Lil Mouse will be the next 2Pac.
ReplyDeleteThat is wild. I like all of the focus on the BMW and how he speaks about his girl riding shotgun, when he is a good three years from being able to drive. Also, I wonder who discovered this Lil Mouse, he speaks like he's at least 16 but is most definitely far from that. I would not fuck around with him though in fear of getting smoked by him and his crew of like 20-30 year olds. Leo's right, maybe he will be the next Tupac, or maybe he will retire from the game before he can legally gamble.
ReplyDeleteWith this whole GBE element (Chief Keef, Lil Reese, Fredo, etc.) the "drill" movement in chicago what is hot. King Louie and Lil Durk are there as well. If he makes it, kudos to him. He'll probably get a deal if Bow-Wow and Romeo can. It wasn't like they weren't objectifying women as well.
